Congratulations

Nick J. Irving & Nia J. Irving!

The Stony Brook School is a 7th–12th grade private, Christian, co-educational, college-preparatory boarding school in Stony Brook, New York.

If you’re reading this, I hope it’s because you believe, like I do, that when you invest in the right young people at the right moment, you’re not just changing a semester or a school year. You’re changing lives, families, and futures. We are Jamel & Patrice Irving, and the proud parents of two amazing, wildly different, yet equally driven kids: Nicholas (Nick) and Nia Irving. Both have been accepted to The Stony Brook School in Long Island. Nick is already there thriving as a ninth-grade boarding student, and Nia is set to join him this fall as a rising freshman. But we need help to keep this dream alive. Currently, it takes five family members pulling funds together to cover Nick’s tuition, which is about $20,000 after financial aid through Clarity. With Nia entering, our cost doubles to around $40,000; a gap we simply can’t close without outside support. Let me tell you a little bit about them:

Nick has been chasing soccer balls since he could walk. His love for sports is only matched by his big heart and magnetic energy. He leads with enthusiasm, lifts up his teammates, and keeps his grades steady even when he's sprinting from practice to class. He’s not just a student-athlete, he’s the kind of young man who makes a classroom or a field better just by being on it.

Nia is quieter, more measured but no less remarkable. She's deeply observant, fiercely loyal, and newly obsessed with volleyball (our living room wall can confirm). With her love of fashion and creative expression, she brings a different kind of light. She’s the kid who will write her friend a playlist when they’re down and turn around to ace a science test the next day. Watching her prepare to join Stony Brook has been beautiful. She wants this and she’s ready.

Their father is a proud Deerfield Academy alum and a strong believer in the value of this kind of education. We’ve already seen what a transformative experience Stony Brook has been for Nick. The structure, support, and sense of purpose are exactly what we hoped for. Now we want that same opportunity for Nia but we can’t do it alone. We are looking for individuals, families, and organizations who believe in giving kids the space and support to rise. Any contribution, big or small, will go directly toward tuition and help us ensure that both Nick and Nia can walk this path together.

Thank you for reading, for considering, and most of all for believing in what’s possible when kids are given the chance to thrive. For direct inquiries regarding tuition donations, please contact Dorothy Bloom, Student Accounts Manager at The Stony Brook School:

Young Man, Young Man

In the tapestry of strength, a vibrant hue, A young Black man, resilience true. Intelligence as his guiding star,
Empowered brilliance, reaching far.
His voice, a beacon breaking through.

Family

In sibling bonds, a steadfast tie,
A good brother, you can't deny.
Kindness flows in words and deed,
Together, a family's strongest seed.
Through every storm, he's by your side.

Phenomenal Woman

She walks with storms tucked in her stride, A quiet fire she doesn't hide.
Rooted deep in history's grace,
She builds the future, takes her place.
Mind like lightning, sharp and bright,
She turns her truth into her light.
